  1.                     Equipment and Software Requirements

  4.        To use PC PURSUIT, all you need are --
  5.  
  6.        - a telephone line
  7.        - an auto-answer modem - 300 or 1200 bps
  8.        - a terminal or a PC with asynchronous communications software
  9.  
  10.        PARAMETERS:
  11.        -----------
  12.        Communication parameters for your hardware should be set-up
  13.        consistent with the PC or BBS or host computer you wish to dial.
  14.  
  15.        FILE TRANSFERS:
  16.        ---------------
  17.        Most transfer protocols are compatible with PC PURSUIT.
  18.        Across TELENET'S Public Data Network, PC PURSUIT transmits
  19.        data utilizing 8 bit transperency. Due to XMODEM'S use of
  20.        single block by block acknowledgement of data sent, XMODEM
  21.        file transfers can take slightly longer. There are
  22.        however, more efficent transfer protocols such as KERMIT.

  24.        AUTO-ANSWER:
  25.        ------------
  26.        Some communication software packages (such as Crosstalk and
  27.        Smartcom II) require that you change the mode to auto-answer
  28.        in order to receive your call-back. (Consult you manual for
  29.        specifics)  Other modems and/or software will both dial and
  30.        answer automatically with no change in mode.

  32.        Some tips if you need to switch modes --
  33.  
  34.        1) First place your call request and then get ready to
  35.           receive your call-back.  Change from DIAL mode to
  36.           ANSWER mode by simply getting back to your software
  37.           main menu or command level and then switch it to auto-answer.
  38.  
  39.        2) After you receive your call-back and while you await the
  40.           final connection of your PC PURSUIT call request, you
  41.           may need to switch your software back to DIAL mode.  The
  42.           reason for this is to ensure you are back in full-duplex
  43.           mode and this should prevent any echoing problems you
  44.           may encounter.  Typically, DIAL mode is full-duplex and
  45.           AUTO-ANSWER mode is half-duplex.
